Day 3 of Hove
Ok. Back in the press tent. It is about 11:40AM on my third day at Hove. I am currently uploading some videos to YouTube so that I can put them up on Panjea for Jason. They are my videos from Glastonbury that are basically my video notes about the festival and just ideas in general.
Anyway. It is another day and I am feeling closer and closer to fully healthy each day. I am going to head over to the beach after I am done here with the Danish gys and hopefully Berri if we can find her. Last saw her at Interpol last night.
Well, I left off with packing up my tent at 5:30 am on monday, Got on the bus after having dropped my blanket and pillow in the mud while loading my stuff into the storage compartment of the coach. Talked with a funny guy on the bus from the festival into London. I can't remember his name or where he was from but it was a nice interaction for the majority of the bus ride. Get back to London at about 11. So I was completely muddy, head to toe, with my Wellington's still on, looking like quite a bum if it was not understood in the context of the fact that I had just come back from glastonbury. I was greeted with two different kinds of reactions, one being that of sympathy or disgust in peopl's perception that I was some vgarant, dirty bum, and also was greeted with the response of "how was glastonbury" etc. So I got back to the Earl's Court car depot and walked from there to the Tube where I decided to get off at Hyde Park Corner. Figured I would go to the park, smoke a spliff, relax, and stop in at a coffeeshop and blog a little and catch up with myself. Ended up not going thru the park, but instead, walking thru the post district of Chelsea. I got some fuuunnnny stares as I sat outside of Louis Vutton and across the street from Gucci. I watched as the wealth passed by and entered into my journal some interesting thoughts and observations. It would have been quite the juxtaposition had I pulled out my MacBook and watched those curious responses but I felt it more appropriate to just pull out myjournal and write them in. The juxtaposition of me in front of gucci and louis vutton was satisfying enough for the moment. So I then hop on a bus where the bus driver looking at the bill I gave him quite carefully to make sure it was counterfit. His assuming that a vagrant bum has the access to resources of counterfit money was funny enough to hold me over for a littl while as I rode the bus. I got off in an area near Chelsea where I saw a Starbucks (it was Parsons Green). I sat at the Strarbucks for a bit and had some coffee and took an amazing dump and blogged a bit ("Post-Glasto"). I elicited the responses of "how was glastonbury, etc" which was a nice contrast to the "wow, look at this disgusting bum" responses I got when I was in the posh area. Ok, so I finish up at the starbucks and head to the tube where I get off at heathrow. I had to wait a while to check in because I was too early. I had to get my back pack wrapped because there was too much shit hanging off of it (my blanket, my jacket, etc.). So i finally get my bag checked in and I go downstairs to the restaurant and finally have a nice meal. Burger and chips and a maker's on the rocks. I delve deeper into the autobiography of Marilyn Manson (which I haven't talked about at all here yet but I have been reading on and off since I bought it the day I had free in London before the bus to Glastonbury. It is really good and I am finding it quite engaging.) Then, I go to my gate where I sit on my computer again and upload my pictures and videos from Glastonbury. Which I must say with some frustration and disappointment are lacking because of wetness and battery situations which reminds me that I need to either get another camera or I need to purchase an extra battery so that I can always have a back-up battery on me at all times. I get on the plane to Oslo. I satrted playing with iFilm because I wanted to attempt to put all of my video blogs to jason together as one piece. When I get back to LA, I need to start playing with it more because it is really fun and easy. Also, iPhoto editing options are really easy to use and can really improve the quality of pictures, so that is something to also keep in mind. OK, so I get off the plane in Oslo to the wonderful airport that I remember from a year ago. Beatiful modern, wood and glass, clean lines. Beatiful. Get in at like 10:30 or something and the sky is blue. I forgot about all that wow...[break for cigarette]...ok back...so i hop on the train to go to anker hostel...i take it way too far and miss my stop, mind you, it is now about midnight or 1am. So i get off at the totttallly wrong fucking stup in the middle of buttfuck nowhere and there are for sure no more trains going until at least 5 or 6 hours from now, it is totally one of those times where one can go fuuuuuuck and just whine and bitch which i did and hit a couple things and let some anger out. i havent showered in days, i feel disgusting and no here i am in the middle of nowehere. this is when you think about how far you are away from home, how nice it would be to be back up driving up beverly glen left on nicada left on claray, hit the garage opener, take a bottle of water form the garage, take a dump with a toilet that fliushed take a nice hot eshower and get in a nice warm bed and beat off and go to sleep, after thinking about all that, then you get practical, so i tried hitchhiking which did not work, i mean honeslty if you saw how i looked, you would not even come close to thinking about picking me up unless you were some pervy truck driver, so i hike for about a mile or two which felt like hours until i get to a gas station, i asked the clerk there to call me a cab which he does and then he tells me it would be about 700 kroner to get back to where i want to go (which translates into about 110 bucks). so i get in the cab and he says he will take me to the bus stop where i can catch a bus back to oslo which will be about 195 kroner but it doesnt leave for another hour whatever its what i have to do after having gotten in the cab, we see the bus and it has just left my stop so i tell the cabbie to follow it. he chases it down and i flag it down. pay the cabbie 100 kroner for literally a 2 minute drive but it was worth it i guess and then i get in the bus and pay him the 195 kroner and we are on our way....get back to the main bus terminal and then take a 100 kroner cab to the hostel. i get to my room and i have a stinky african above me (no disrepspect, just honest), and a weird like 60 year old guy in the bed next to me, a creepy older german guy who has just put on his motorcycle gear and is heading out at like 3 am and then some guy who looks like a weird mix of italian and middle eastern and is totally a meathead steroid guy,....i shower and put something in the outlet to charge and pass out. the next day is tuesday (the first day of hove which i miss a lot of the music i really wanted to see) but ya know what i had to do my laundry and i had to get a nice rest in a bed, sleep til like noon and pay for an additional night at the hostel so i dont have to leave. i do all my laundry have some food relax, smoke a spliff and then head to the bus terminal at 6. take a 6:15 bus which takes 5 hours!!!!! to get to hove. i get there and that is when the shit begins. it is pouring so fuckng hard and i dont have a place to sleep and i cant get my passes until the next day. it is an ugly sceene. i sleep in a parking garage and i just do it. had to. the next morning, i am awoken by polic offficers who remind me that the parking garage is not a campsite to which i respond it was raining so hard last night and i couldnt get to the festival, they chuckle in understanding and say they will be back in 30 minutes and i wont be there when they get back, right? yes. so i pack up and go to subway for a sandwich, some iced tea, and a major poo. then i head over to the festival. i get to the festival ground, meet marina (?) in the bandit office, get my passes, get my camping pass and shit, find a nice spot near the bbq pits and set up shop. niiiiice, i am here. walking around with my bottle of maker's mark in hand it is not that hard to meet people, after then getting over the obstacle of i dont speak your language, i get to know three quite attractive boys from denmark and a girl from stravanger. we hang out for awhile drinking and bullshiting,...i walk around the site to get my bearings, check out the main stage where i see they have a wire camera, which i had previously only seen used at sporting events, bla bla bla...then the arcade fire and the killers, we so lived in the moment, met pierre who is an assistant to toffen whoi is really funny and nice. and it becomes a night of booze and beer and then a spliff...then we have yesterday...i am not in the mood to go into all this right now. but i got sick along the way. im sure sleeping in that damn parking garage and being wet and cold didnt help at all, but i am getting better each day and by the time i get back and go to roskilde i will be feeling like a million bucks again and there is an unbelievable line up there and i will be with jason and i cant fucking wait it will be a blast. i am currently still uploading those videos to youtube for jason from glastonbury so i can put them up on panjea...oh, so an online magazine called Henne (www.henne.no) took pictures of me and asked me questions they said i would be up on their site for festival style, after having thought about it i would have answered their questions differently (namely, do you have any style icons? i would have now said jim morrison, pete doherty, and carlos d (from interpol))

Day 2 of Hove Festival
Well, it is my second day here at the Hove Festival. In much different spirits than I was during my last post. I have found myself a good group of people with whom I have spent the last day and night with (a group of 3 Danish boys and one Norweigean girl). What music have I seen here thus far:
X-Queen of the Astronauts
Arcade Fire
The Killers
Tokyo Police Club
Oh No Ono
Interpol
Musically, it has not been the most eventful of festivals.
This is a festival where the line-up is not unbelievable. As a festival, it is its first year and with it, they are certainly learning a lot. Toffen brought his crew over from Quart and it is a great site here and there is a lot of potential. I missed the first day which happened to have a lot of the music that I really wanted to see (Incubus, Queens of the Stone Age, Amy Winehouse, The Klaxons, The Twang, Kaiser Chiefs). Of those bands, really I am nnoyed most that I didn't get to see Incubus: a. because I have never had the privilege of seeing them live and b. because it would have been nice to hang out with Seth here and probably hang out with the band. Furthermore, it would have been good to have seen the Clipse.
I guess I haven't posted very much over the last few days here so maybe a re-cap is appropriate...
Well, here we go...
Monday morning was the end of my glastonbury experience, it started bright and early at 5am as I packed up in the rain. ...this is gonna have to wait...press tent is closing

Post-Glastonbury
1:37PM 25/6/07 Starbucks (Chelsea) at Broomhouse Rd. ad New Kings Rd.
Well, Glastonbury is now behind me. The battery for my camera is dead and the adapter for the charger won't fit into the outlet here so I will have to wait until I am at Heathrow or in Oslo to upload all my content.
The drizzle has followed me. Hopefully, it won't continue to follow me into Oslo and beyond.
What a festival! Where to begin, dear, where to begin!?!
Massive. What a site. 177,000 people!
I'll delve into the music in due time as that was just one of the amazing aspects...
The people. I didn't see a single scuffle. Not a punch thrown. What nice people. Lots of sorry's and excuse's me and more than enough cheers mate's!
The mud. Sticky. Worse than quick sand along many pedestrian pathes. Crowded is an understantment. But, well maintained. And, as much as could have been done as far as crowd control was done.
A complaint would be that during certain performances (namely, Iggy and the Stooges on the Other Stage). The pit area was watched over with a cautious eye by those staffed there. They were more concerned with people coming over the gate and getting onto the stage (even though Iggy invited us up there) and it should be noted that his words were "don't allow them to let you up, just get the f*ck up here, it's the world famous Glastobury dancers." What a show, what a party. He is a creature! But, the staff were not looking over the people as muc as they, by my view, should have. Everyone in there was so courteous though in the way of helping people up and making sure smaller people and girls were out of harm's way.
The size. WOW! The "republic of Glastonbury" spanned for miles and miles in any directions.
My campsite...overloking the Pramid Stage. After having wandered about for nearly an hour in search of "the perfect spot," I settled back on where I was initially and where my ideal vision looked like before having left the States. Top of the hill. The pyramid Stage in glorious view from the front of my tent. And, right next to the Pyramid Property Lock-Up so I could drop off my camera charger off each day to refill with energy as I found out that the battery I have doesn't last very long (note to self: buy a new camera battery because: a. I think th one I have now which is the only one i have had for that nearly five-year-old camera has to be running low and b. so that I can just pop in a new, completely charged battery in the future and not have to fuss with charging one.
So....the music....for now, I will mention the names of the bands whose performances stand out in my head at the moment and then go into detail later when I have my program in front of me nd can really remember more of the details of my experience:

Because of the weather, it made it possible for so many performances to be elevated with sunshine and to make it seem as though the clouds indeed were opening up just for that performer (see: Lily Allen, Marly Brothers, etc.) And then there were those performances that elicited the performer to thank the crowd "for dancing around in the f*ckin mud and rain for us" (see: Gogol Bordello, Dirty Pretty Things, etc.)
All of my stress about not being able to get in were lessened initially by my brother and Janet (Primary) and Annaya(main production office) and once I got that ticket (WOW), cracked open that fucking bottle of Maker's Mark and meet some new folks: Louie, Lidia, and Patrick. They had a bottle of Jack and we exchanged gulps as a circle.
HIGHLIGHTS:
The chaos of the pit for Iggy. The saturday I got to spend with the aussie, Marius, after having courted him at The Long Blondes. The muddy debauchery of the final night's performance by the View with Ky and his forklift-driving mate (fair play, fair play). The raw, embraceful emotion and energy and power of the Editors' lead man. Patrick Wolf's set that was cut short but filled with so much dance dance dance energy energy energy. Bjork's DJ playing with some interesting technology that I am curious to see more up close and at Hove (or Roskilde?). Getting right up in front for the Gossip and experiencing her and that guitarist's power. Getting that rock of hash for 10 quid (which Marius paid for) during Lily Allen from that hip hop cat. Speaking with ? (Golden State Warriors' Chris Mullin jersey) about the state of hip hop and States/Euro cdifferences/similarities. Having successfully packed up my tent. Spliff after successful spliff rolled by yours truly. Not having taken out my Blackberry from the tent until the last night. Having realized that being an America is novel at Glastonbury and that I can draw people to me simply by opening up a line of communication, i.e. opening my mouth. The location of my tent and that it was what I envisioned and then some. Climbing on top of the Pyramid Property lock-up to watch Kaiser Chiefs. Finding that cooler on the gorund during the Babyshambles and stepping on top it for the majority of their performance, thus giving me the best view possible (!). Still having my Mac in working order after the festival (!).
LOWLIGHTS:
Packing up my tent at 5:30AM this morning in the rain. Getting stuck in the mud on multiple occassions. Having had many muddy wellie's (read: officially sanctioned Glastonbury rain boots) slide across my face as people crowd-surfed their way onto stage for Iggy and the Stooges. The fact that no one was ever satisfied at the end of a set (always screaming for more and never just accepting that what they just saw was a satiating set). Letting Marius leave without pursuing him more aggressively (read: being more of a leader and guide as he was clearly a "follower" type who was genuinely interested in "new" experiences). The pins and needles feeling throughout my whole body after having walked miles and miles with my pack on. Taking a cump (and there was only one that was taken) in a port-a-loo on Saturday morning. Having taken a "shower" by way of Dove face wipes on a towel like a baby in my tent. Realizing that what I thought was blow was kettamine (and then blowing it out of my nose best I could when he told me what it was, but it should be noted that I did enjoy the maybe 15-minute body high I got from the bit that I had injested). Not having put the rain cover on my tent the first night and waking up rather soaked. Almost having had my camera die and going thru all my mental anguish (highlight: it coming back to life after nearly drowning). Dropping my pillow and blanket in a big puddle just before I load my pack onto the coach. Not taking Maius' phone number when he offered it to me. Thinking that looking good would draw people to me (and thus losing my grenade (!) in the mud of Goggol Bordello's performance). Taking a nap while Arcade Fire was performing. Not making it up on to stage with others while Iggy and the Stooges performed. Realizing that there is no program on my MacBook that allows me to record video (i.e. Photobooth only captures still images)(there should be a program called Confessional Booth or something that allows you to record yourself with the built-in video recorder)(you can use YouTube to make your own videos of yourself and post them but if you don't have an internet connection as I didn't, that isn't possible.
Wow...I've got to stop here. 29 minutes of battery left and I need to book my hostel room for tonight in Oslo and maybe IM some friends on AIM...

Well, Glastonbury is now behind me. The battery for my camera is dead and the adapter for the charger won't fit into the outlet here so I will have to wait until I am at Heathrow or in Oslo to upload all my content.
The drizzle has followed me. Hopefully, it won't continue to follow me into Oslo and beyond.
What a festival! Where to begin, dear, where to begin!?!
Massive. What a site. 177,000 people!
I'll delve into the music in due time as that was just one of the amazing aspects...
The people. I didn't see a single scuffle. Not a punch thrown. What nice people. Lots of sorry's and excuse's me and more than enough cheers mate's!
The mud. Sticky. Worse than quick sand along many pedestrian pathes. Crowded is an understantment. But, well maintained. And, as much as could have been done as far as crowd control was done.
A complaint would be that during certain performances (namely, Iggy and the Stooges on the Other Stage). The pit area was watched over with a cautious eye by those staffed there. They were more concerned with people coming over the gate and getting onto the stage (even though Iggy invited us up there) and it should be noted that his words were "don't allow them to let you up, just get the f*ck up here, it's the world famous Glastobury dancers." What a show, what a party. He is a creature! But, the staff were not looking over the people as muc as they, by my view, should have. Everyone in there was so courteous though in the way of helping people up and making sure smaller people and girls were out of harm's way.
The size. WOW! The "republic of Glastonbury" spanned for miles and miles in any directions.
My campsite...overloking the Pramid Stage. After having wandered about for nearly an hour in search of "the perfect spot," I settled back on where I was initially and where my ideal vision looked like before having left the States. Top of the hill. The pyramid Stage in glorious view from the front of my tent. And, right next to the Pyramid Property Lock-Up so I could drop off my camera charger off each day to refill with energy as I found out that the battery I have doesn't last very long (note to self: buy a new camera battery because: a. I think th one I have now which is the only one i have had for that nearly five-year-old camera has to be running low and b. so that I can just pop in a new, completely charged battery in the future and not have to fuss with charging one.
So....the music....for now, I will mention the names of the bands whose performances stand out in my head at the moment and then go into detail later when I have my program in front of me nd can really remember more of the details of my experience:

Because of the weather, it made it possible for so many performances to be elevated with sunshine and to make it seem as though the clouds indeed were opening up just for that performer (see: Lily Allen, Marly Brothers, etc.) And then there were those performances that elicited the performer to thank the crowd "for dancing around in the f*ckin mud and rain for us" (see: Gogol Bordello, Dirty Pretty Things, etc.)
All of my stress about not being able to get in were lessened initially by my brother and Janet (Primary) and Annaya(main production office) and once I got that ticket (WOW), cracked open that fucking bottle of Maker's Mark and meet some new folks: Louie, Lidia, and Patrick. They had a bottle of Jack and we exchanged gulps as a circle.
HIGHLIGHTS:
The chaos of the pit for Iggy. The saturday I got to spend with the aussie, Marius, after having courted him at The Long Blondes. The muddy debauchery of the final night's performance by the View with Ky and his forklift-driving mate (fair play, fair play). The raw, embraceful emotion and energy and power of the Editors' lead man. Patrick Wolf's set that was cut short but filled with so much dance dance dance energy energy energy. Bjork's DJ playing with some interesting technology that I am curious to see more up close and at Hove (or Roskilde?). Getting right up in front for the Gossip and experiencing her and that guitarist's power. Getting that rock of hash for 10 quid (which Marius paid for) during Lily Allen from that hip hop cat. Speaking with ? (Golden State Warriors' Chris Mullin jersey) about the state of hip hop and States/Euro cdifferences/similarities. Having successfully packed up my tent. Spliff after successful spliff rolled by yours truly. Not having taken out my Blackberry from the tent until the last night. Having realized that being an America is novel at Glastonbury and that I can draw people to me simply by opening up a line of communication, i.e. opening my mouth. The location of my tent and that it was what I envisioned and then some. Climbing on top of the Pyramid Property lock-up to watch Kaiser Chiefs. Finding that cooler on the gorund during the Babyshambles and stepping on top it for the majority of their performance, thus giving me the best view possible (!). Still having my Mac in working order after the festival (!).
LOWLIGHTS:
Packing up my tent at 5:30AM this morning in the rain. Getting stuck in the mud on multiple occassions. Having had many muddy wellie's (read: officially sanctioned Glastonbury rain boots) slide across my face as people crowd-surfed their way onto stage for Iggy and the Stooges. The fact that no one was ever satisfied at the end of a set (always screaming for more and never just accepting that what they just saw was a satiating set). Letting Marius leave without pursuing him more aggressively (read: being more of a leader and guide as he was clearly a "follower" type who was genuinely interested in "new" experiences). The pins and needles feeling throughout my whole body after having walked miles and miles with my pack on. Taking a cump (and there was only one that was taken) in a port-a-loo on Saturday morning. Having taken a "shower" by way of Dove face wipes on a towel like a baby in my tent. Realizing that what I thought was blow was kettamine (and then blowing it out of my nose best I could when he told me what it was, but it should be noted that I did enjoy the maybe 15-minute body high I got from the bit that I had injested). Not having put the rain cover on my tent the first night and waking up rather soaked. Almost having had my camera die and going thru all my mental anguish (highlight: it coming back to life after nearly drowning). Dropping my pillow and blanket in a big puddle just before I load my pack onto the coach. Not taking Maius' phone number when he offered it to me. Thinking that looking good would draw people to me (and thus losing my grenade (!) in the mud of Goggol Bordello's performance). Taking a nap while Arcade Fire was performing. Not making it up on to stage with others while Iggy and the Stooges performed. Realizing that there is no program on my MacBook that allows me to record video (i.e. Photobooth only captures still images)(there should be a program called Confessional Booth or something that allows you to record yourself with the built-in video recorder)(you can use YouTube to make your own videos of yourself and post them but if you don't have an internet connection as I didn't, that isn't possible.
Wow...I've got to stop here. 29 minutes of battery left and I need to book my hostel room for tonight in Oslo and maybe IM some friends on AIM...

London for the day
Well, I am going to go back over to the Earl's Court bus depot before 4pm and take the bus to Pilton. I checked train fares. It would be 50 pounds to get up there and it just does not seem worth it to me. I understand that the only way I am going to be able to sort out my ticket situation is simply to be up there and to speak with them.
I'm currently with a cup of espresso at a cafe on the corner of William IV Street (WC2) and St. Martin's Lane (WC2). After having had an English breakfast of ham, sausage, eggs, beans, bread, and coffee, I checked out of the hotel and left my bag there. Walked around a bit and then took the tube to Leicester Square. I recall Patrick Wolf speaking of ths area. I would quite like to buy some hash before heading up to Glasto. I'd like to go to Hyde Park and sit for a bit or head to East london and walk around a bit. I am scared to use my Google Maps on my BB because i think: a. it doesn't cover the world and b. my bill would get quite ridiculous with all that data transfer. I also need to buy a converter so I can charge up all my technology here and there. Oh, and I just paid 6 pounds for this internet access so I hope I look back on this entry with some kind of fond memory. Toodles...

Here I am
In London...at 12:51 am...in the lobby of Hotel Lily
I am just blocks away from where the bus depot is.
I had to pay 40 pounds for tis room, which I am annoyed about. I went over to the bus depot and considered jumping over the fence with my stuff and sleeping on the concrete in the carpark. But, I opted to come to a hotel and have one shower and night of sleep (well, nap) before embarking on my Glastonbury journey. I will be camping on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, I will come back to London on Monday and then fly to Oslo that night.
Let's just focus on this first festival and not get ahead of ourselves (well, myself because we are really just talking about me)...which I will know begin a rant about after this cigarette.
I do these things alone. Last summer, I did this for two months. This summer, I do it for 3 weeks. This is what I do.
In asking myself, why I love this stuff so much and having had other people (namely, my brother and my dad too), there is some confusion.
WHY is it that i love this shit?
Music has been my escape and my obsession for so long. Regardless of all that is happening in my life, music is my constant. When I was in Boulder, I could always go to the Fox. I went to shows solo all the time. It made no difference to me. I always was up on some new bands. To me, I am lonely and have been for awhile. Whether it was in high school, when I had a ton of friends (read: acquaintances) but no one who I was very close with. I lacked that close circle, that srong bond, of close friends. That followed me to college where I knew many people but was close with few. Then, I took a job working for Sasha after college for University Denim where I was on the road 3 weeks out of every month for 10 months. It was and is hard to be close with people. And, now I am back living in LA, and while I know a lot of people, I am close with few (to none). So, music is there for me. Watching my videos on Panjea and blasting the music in my car or stereo. It is always there. That consistency.
Tonight, I was really going to hop that fence and sleep on the ground in that bus depot but I, and this randomly popped into my head at the time, what my dad said when he gave me 300 USD: sleep in a hotel and have nice bed and shower a few times please. HAHA. Well, dad, I am heeding your advice. And, while I think that that 40 quid could have been better spent on a pair of wellies or a bag of blow, here I am.

In any event, another sip of whiskey...1:20am...a cigarette and some shut eye...hopefully, not alone, a prospect has sat nearby...go for it....

My 8:30am flight has now been delayed to 9am...keep the energy positive, david...

To get 170 GBP, I had to give 385.58 USD. Wow.
I figured I would budget myself 50 GBP a day at the festival x 4 days which would give me a budget of 200 GBP.
I need to buy wellies (wellington boots) as well as probably some big waterproof jacket (similar to what I got last year at T in the Park) because this festival is going to be a wet one.
I did get a nice bottle of Maker's Mark and a carton of Marlbro Mediums. The whiskey will be gone by the end of Glastonbury, but the cigarettes should not be. Go DUTY FREE!
It is 6:42 AM and my flight is supposed to depart at 8:30 AM.
So, as far as getting into Glastonbury, I just need to get up to the site. I have all the contact info I need (that which will be of most help will probably be the main production office who was very nice to Jason when he had called earlier). As soon as I get into London, after going thru customs, I need to buy a converter and then get my tookis over to where the coaches are departing from. Still unsure if it was a good decision, I used my Sharpie to change the time on my coach ticket from 3pm to 9pm. It looks ok, but I think if someone sees it and they will obviously notice because my festival ticket won't be on that bus, it will look like I am some shady person. But, anywho, I will get to Glastonbury.
I am the assistant to the manager and U.S. agent that represents a number of acts that work with Primary, but they are not on this festival.
I came all the way from Los Angeles to come to this festival with all the money I had.
I will be fine.

2 planes and delays, delays, delays.

Well, this is going to be short and over soon.
1. I get on my original light from LAX to JFK. There is a problem with the pressurizing mechanism of one side of the plane so after waiting on the plane for about 2 hours, they take us back to the gate.
2. I get on the next flight to JFK which is scheduled to depart at 1:15 pm, which is also delayed because of an excessive need of wheelchairs. We get off the ground en route to JFK only to find that there is crap weather in NY which is slowing down flights going in and out of there. We have to divert to Norfolk, VA to re-fuel. We stay on the ground there for about 2 hours.

It is currently 4:18am and my flight to London departs at 8:30am. I am set to arrive at 8:30pm. The coach I was supposed to take up to Glastonbruy leaves at 3pm.

3 Weeks, 3 Countries, 3 Festivals...
10:02 AM : LAX : American Airlines terminal: awaiting flight to JFK: en route to London.
The journey begins. The backpack has been packed. It's all in there and if it ain't, I'll get it when I need it.
I have been looking forward to this in an immediate sense for the last few weeks; and, in a distant sense since April when I finally got my ticket to Glastonbury after the arduous process of registration, then trying and trying again thru 3 ticket sales opportunities. Finally, at about 3am in Boulder, Colorado with Dylon, armed with two MacBooks, "You request is being processed." Wow!
Well, it is supposed to rain rain rain at Glasto. Hopefully, the new tent I got will withstand the weather. It should. I got a Laker flag to put on my tent. It's one of those flags that people would put on their car. I was very pleased with the purchase. Pictures to follow. It will defintely help me distinguish my tent from the rest. I remember last summer at T in the Park...haha...wow....these drunk boys and their "I think we had a blue tent, mate" as they stumbled amidst the literally thousands of blue tents at the campsite. They chose to sit down, dodge a bit of the rain under a tree, and sniff poppers to numb the frustration with giggles.
I'm quite excited to be back in some of the places I was one year ago and these NEW festivals. A year older, one more year of maturity, bla. It's been an interesting ride. I'm loving the memories that are creeping back into my mind.
+ Pukkelpop with Sarah and Waldo and Jes!
+ Sneking into Rock en Siene in Paris when I had no money left and climbing up the tower of the soundbooth with those girls from southern France and watching that sea of energy moving in unison to the music of Thom and Radiohead (similar in experience to seeing Masive Attack on the main stage at Coachella 2006 and standing up on the barricade stage-right and watching that pile of energy).
+ at T in the Park, in that tent with Jema and those guys, rainging so hard, just swallowed some pills, passing around spliffs and poppers in a liter bottle...with 7 in a tent that was maybe built for two. Jema couldn't stop talking about the duck feather duveys that she missed oh so much that were back in her flat in London.
+ at Quart festival, walking around with those 2 boys, losing my D & G glasses, drinking Jager in that mini bunk-bed room at Centrum Motel. Apeshit, Mooseshit,...funny kids. Kanye and Tool playing on the same stage to tens of thousands of Nordic white blonde-haired, blue-eyed boys.
It really does go on and on. This will be another adventure.

The Process Begins
Over the course of the next few weeks, I will begin to transcribe hand-written journal entries of the past year and then some. I suppose one question I have is, should I stay true to those entries and add no additional commentary/remarks? I know it will be tough to not want to add on top of those entries. So maybe I will do so in bold or italics in the same way academic scholars do when they add their commentary (e.g. not in original text). Anyway...
what past bodies of entries will I be drawing upon?
-Well, there is one journal that I will certainly be delving into first and that would be the journal which was conceived in Oslo nearly one year ago. July 2nd, 2006 at 8:55pm to be anal about it. This journal lasted until the 6th of September, 2006. The final entery was written at Canter's Deli on Fairfax over "a small order or potato pancakes, roast beef on rye with lettuce and mayo, steak fries; and coffee and water to wash it all down." This journal basically is the documentation of my 2 months in Europe last summer traveling to festivals and otherwise. I went to the Quart festival in Norway, T in the Park in Scotland, Benicassim in Spain, Pukkelpop in Belgium, and Rock en Seine in Paris.I basically went from Norway to Scotland down thru France to Spain over to Italy up thru Switzerland and Germany then up thru Holland and Denmark then back over to Paris and then back to London for my flight back to the States.
-Another journal whose contents may be added, if found (!), will be that of the journal that began sometime towards the end of 2006. It probably covered no more than a month or two of my life, but it did end up being the recipient of my thoughts and reflections upon getting my first and only tattoo just a few weeks into the year of 2007. But, as I hinted at, it was last seen a long time ago..
-The most recent incarnation in the journal of my days and nights and thoughts will be certainly pulled from. This journal was started en route to South by Southwest this year on March 14th. Its initial entries were my notes from the many panel discussions I attended at the conference as well as some drunk and other substance-induced "revelations" and observations.
-There is one other journal from college that I may or may not pull from. It highlights the summer I spent in Seattle (which consisted of many lovely days and nights with my then-partner in crime) and the months after that summer which were part of my senior year of college at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
what won't be covered here?
-detailed memoirs of my sexual exploits and conquests (unless my ego needs a boost and I just can't fight the urge)
-many of the most fantastic concert experiences I have had. This is being typed on a sad note as a result of the loss I endured aout a year ago of all my photos/videos from college (there will indeed certainly be a post dedicated to getting all the feelings off my chest about this loss and about the realness of sentimental digital possessions). But, dont you worry, I have many many many concert experiences still logged up in this head of mine with the aid of many of the wristbands, tickets, and posters I have kept over the years. And, also because of the new digitial property I have created (and have securely stored on an external hard drive!) since my loss.
-and probably other stuff I am embarrassed or ashamed to talk to the random general population of people about .
The creation of a blog doesn't negate the possibility of continuing to keep a journal, does it? Of course not. Right. Glad that is all cleared up.
What will 100% be blogged about by me?
-awesome new music
-awesome old music
-lots of experiences (music, travel, sociology, random shit,...TBD)
-lots of wisdom (yes, I have gray hairs so that means for sure I have legitimacy in the wisdom department). And no, I am not over 23 years old, but I do have some gray hairs.
-and more!
-examples of my sneakiness! I am a fuckin ninja! I have snuck into rock festivals (Rock en Siene, Coachella,...), concerts (Arcade Fire, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Eddie Veder...), clubs (...), and lots of other cool shit that you will simply have to continue tuning in to find out about. It has been said by some (actually, one) that I enjoy it more when I sneak in and there is certainly some truth to his conjecture.

Remaining funds will also fund the debauchery that will undoubtedly ensue on this festival endeavor.
